With the proliferation of Snoop Dogg, Fifty Cent and other entertainers donning the pimp persona, it's safe to say that pimping is now fairly mainstream. What most people do not know is the lingo and modus operandi used in the pimp/prostitute game. Thankfully, the Eleventh Circuit is keeping the legal profession current on this fascinating subculture with the publication of U.S. v. Pipkins (aka Sir Charles) and Moore (aka Batman). The opinion starts like this: "In November of 2001, police arrested fifteen Atlanta pimps. . . Thirteen of the pimps named in the indictment pleaded guilty. Only two – Defendants Charles Floyd Pipkins and Andrew Moore (“the Defendants”) – proceeded to trial." Judge Cox, who authored the decision, then goes on to define and discuss an abundance of terms and pheonomena in this segment of the underworld. A must read for true crime fans.
