WHAT IS THIS?
This is an open community project. We want all the legal bloggers out there to contribute their thoughts, feelings and ideas about legal blogging.
WHY?
We thought it might be a good idea. After all, lawyers writing on paper can refer, when necessary, to that infamous guide to legal citations. How about legal bloggers?
SO THIS IS ABOUT CITATION FORM? HOW BORING.
No. Not really. It’s about the legal blog (or "blawg") culture. It’s about deciding whether or not there should be voluntary guidelines of any sort, and if so, what should they be. It’s about whether or not a blog becomes something more than just a blog when it is written by a lawyer, an expert in his or her specialty, and features commentary on cases and legislation that some fool might think is legal advice and some other fool, perhaps even a congressperson, might think contains good ideas for amending legislation. Know what I mean?
Legal blogs can be quite influential on people who make and interpret law. And also on people who have legal problems that might need addressing. That adds up to a lot of people.
WHO ARE YOU?
We are:
1. A legal marketing and media relations consultant who dabbles in legal blogging (and is a lawyer)
2. The editor of an online legal magazine (also a lawyer).
3. A blogger and tech stylist who codes cool stuff like moblogging software (yep, lawyer).
ARE YOU AFFILIATED WITH THE INFAMOUS BLUEBOOK THAT ALL FIRST YEAR LAW STUDENTS BUY AND FUMBLE WITH IN THEIR LEGAL WRITING CLASSES AND JOURNAL EDITORS WIELD LIKE A CRUEL BLUE CUDGEL?
No.
SO HOW IS THIS GOING TO WORK?
Kind of like Wikipedia, except using the blog form. We’re going to post ideas, and all you legal bloggers are going to respond. Those of you who are willing to become a more integral part of the process can get a username/password and start your own threads.
For now, just comment on the posts you see.
We don't know the outcome of this process. We don’t even know for sure how the process should work. Which is great. It's a total blogosphere free-for-all.
IS THIS FAQ SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE?
Yep.
