All Quiet on the Weblog Front
« Blogger threatened with legal action for allegedly defamatory blog post | Main | Law Student Blogging Supreme »

Shhh. You hear that? It's the sound of professional journalists looking for a scoop.

Here's one: someone should do an expose on the psychological profiles of bloggers.

What motivates people to post? More specifically, what motivates lawyers to post? I can think of a few motives: Love of divulging "secret" information; A desire to be recognized as an authority; A belief that the dissemination of information is in the public interest.

However, I doubt that money enters the equation. Someone said that blogging is its own reward. As far as I can tell, the main people profiting from blogging endeavors are: 1) journalists who use blogs for their paid story ideas; and 2) people who create and host blogs for others (modern day vanity publishers).

Undoubtedly, the question, "Why do I blog?" has passed through the minds of many. While the answers are probably different for each person, I wonder if there's any common thread.

Ok, this post was a bit cynical. There are, of course, many wonderful reasons to blog. I'm probably preaching to the converted, but see this Fast Company article for more validation:
